How does Hotel Del Luna fit in all this? Definitely not a bureaucracy, Confucian or otherwise—though that snazzy purple wide-brimmed extravaganza makes for an eye-catching replacement for the gat!
I've only seen a few episodes of Hotel del Luna, though I really enjoyed them! (You're so right about the fashion, it's SO good.) Same with Mystic Pop-Up Bar and some others. Someone should pay me to spend my days catching up on every great show I haven't experienced yet!
I did choose to focus on Goblin and Tomorrow because those grim reapers are most directly (from among what I've seen) involved in collecting souls at the moment of death, rather than mostly helping them/developing relationships while they're in some kind of limbo (so, Escort team versus Risk Management team in Tomorrow). That seemed like the closest analog to the traditional jeoseung-saja blueprint, while the others are a more modern kind of narrative. Thank you so much for asking, though! I realized as I was writing this that scope creep was just around the corner pretty much at any moment, so clearly I'll need to revisit the topic.
Your writing is top-notch! Love all these deep dives into a subject wholly unfamiliar to me.
I'm beaming, thank you!! This is exactly what I want people to get from these pieces!

There’s definitely a lot to explore and to say!
